Apse ceiling painting

The decoration and furniture of the interior of MacGregor Chalmer’s design reflect his strong leanings towards the Romanesque, as translated in the current Arts and Crafts Movement of the first decade of the C20th. Although the Apse ceiling painting outraged an Elder of the time, who resigned out of horror and disgust for this idolatrous image, it has brought about no such upset since that time!

The beautiful, rough-hewn stone, which was locally quarried and dressed, well complements the fine and simple oak furniture, and the exposed beams and ceiling timbers of plain red pine.

The Communion Table, Pulpit and Font are all made of plainly finished and polished light oak.

The pulpit and the Communion Table were built for the princely sum of £21.00
